As hard as I try, I can’t see any signs of the dreaded global warming in this news release: “a frost advisory has been issued for much of New York state, including Oneida County.”  Temperatures are expected to drop to the low to mid 30s and a warning has been issued to prepare for a hard freeze.

The region’s low temperature for today is expected to be about 36 degrees, which also is the record low temperature for May 31, according to WKTV meteorologists and weather archives.

The record was set in 1966.

The record low for June 1 is 31 degrees, which was set in 1945, according to weather archives.

Well, that’s Climate Change for you!

If you didn’t make money this month then you weren’t watching our Trade Triangles.

CURRENCIES
May has been quite a month, especially for the British Pound (GBP). In an earlier video, I alerted everyone of the potential upward move. The market ended up moving right in line with MarketClub’s expectations and is showing some excellent profits. One currency contract at the CME is showing a profit of over $8,000, a stunning return of over 216% over initial margin*.

ETF

Gold has also been a big winner this month with a move over the $950 level. This stellar move produced profits over $2,845 a contract. This represents a return of 50% in less than a month over initial margin*.

I have written about the discovery of underwater volcanoes and have wondered about their influence on (gasp) global warming or climate change.  There was:

The oceans cover approximately 75% of the earth’s surface and I’m frequently amazed at how little we know about what lies underneath.  Yesterday, scientists found another underwater monster.

Scientists scouring the ocean floor to study the nature of tsunamis have discovered a massive underwater volcano off Indonesia’s western coast.

The 4,600-metre high mountain spans 50km at its base, Yusuf Surachman Djajadihardja, a marine geologist with the government’s Agency for Assessment and Application Technology, said on Friday.

The discovery of the giant volcano was “completely unexpected,” he said.

That’s a 15,000 foot mountain that was hiding under the sea and we don’t yet know if it’s active, and we don’t know how many more are out there warming the oceans.

According to USA Today, “The government took on $6.8 trillion in new obligations in 2008, pushing the total owed to a record $63.8 trillion”

And if the CBO is accurate by 2019, we’ll add another $11 trillion to the total.

World Net Daily reports:

As President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee comes under heavy fire for allegedly being a “racist,” Judge Sonia Sotomayor is listed as a member of the National Council of La Raza, a group that’s promoted driver’s licenses for illegal aliens, amnesty programs, and no immigration law enforcement by local and state police.

According the American Bar Association, Sotomayor is a member of the NCLR, which bills itself as the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S.

Meaning “the Race,” La Raza also has connections to groups that advocate the separation of several southwestern states from the rest of America.

Third grader Brennan announced this morning, as he got on the bus, that we can say goodby to him, because his last day is June 5th.  (School is out on the tenth.)

I asked him where was he going and he informed me as he sat down halfway back in the bus, that he was going to Alaska.

I said, “You won’t be around for the tenth?”

“No,” he said.  We’ll be staying in a big white house in Alaska.  No tents!”

My friend Robert Somerville pointed out to me that there’s been a lot of quake activity in the Coso Junction area of California.   The Rhyolite cone in the distance is near the town of Little Lake where the field crosses highway 395.  Checking in with USGS (see list), there have been nine 3.0+ quakes in the area just since May 22.

The Coso volcanic field is also well known as a geothermal area. Fumaroles are present along faults bounding the rhyolite-capped horst and locally within the rhyolite field. A multi-disciplinary program of geothermal assessment carried out in the 1970s defined a potential resource of 650 megawatts electric with a nominal life span of 30 years. Judged by the youthfulness of the rhyolite lavas and by a zone of low seismic velocity crust roughly beneath the rhyolite, a magma body may be the source of thermal energy for the geothermal system. Commercial development beginning in the 1980’s resulted in the startup of a geothermal steam-driven 3-MW electric power plant in 198.

As always, when I see swarms such as this, I wonder if we are going to see volcanic activity or is it just restlessness that will take 100s or 1000s of years to play out.

California Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Gay Marriage

The California Supreme Court upheld a ban on same-sex marriage today, ratifying a decision made by voters last year that runs counter to a growing trend of states allowing the practice.

The decision, however, preserves the 18,000 marriages performed between the court’s decision last May that same-sex marriage was lawful and the passage by voters in November of Proposition 8, which banned it.

It’s not over.  Expect an appeal!
