I looked at my Kindle list of books and realized I had never read “Angel Fire†by Ron Franscell. Ron was a newspaperman in Beaumont, Texas who I met through his blog Under the News, when he was commenting about Hurricane Rita roaring through the city.
Let me tell you upfront, I loved “Angel Fire.†It’s the story of a brothers’ love for his brother in a Wyoming, small town of West Canaan. I loved the use of adjectives and metaphors.
“The hot breeze off the street tickled the nape of Cassidy’s neck, like a big black dog breathing on him.â€
“…the ranchers’ pickup trucks were parked in a rusty row, like the addled mail boxes at the end of a county road.â€
About the town of West Canaan, Ron writes, “Cupped in the smooth palms of the Black Hills to the east and the Big Horn Mountains to the west…â€
Ron Franscell is a real writer and his story deserves your attention.
