“We Are Ruining A Nation!”

Are these kids the same type of kids we see rioting in Ferguson?

Theodora Mautz, a Lincoln High senior, Scores Big

Theodora Mautz, a Lincoln High senior

Tales from the Yellow Bus has been all but retired, since I no longer drive the big buses. I just had to comment about a former student who made the news this month.

Theodora Mautz, a Lincoln High senior with parents from Pendleton and Beijing, achieved perfect scores on both the ACT and SAT college entrance tests this year, an apparent first in Oregon.

I always looked forward to seeing Theodora in the morning, always cheerful, sometimes rushed, very accomplished. She had a interesting homelife and frequent trips to China. I miss seeing her and wish her all the best as a freshwoman in college.

Does Obama Live In Disneyland?

In a talk with from Tumblr users at the White House on Wednesday, Obama said

“I mean, the truth of the matter is that for all the challenges we face, all the problems that we have, if you had to be — if you had to choose any moment to be born in human history, not knowing what your position was going to be, who you were going to be, you’d choose this time. The world is less violent than it has ever been. It is healthier than it has ever been. It is more tolerant than it has ever been. It is better fed then it’s ever been. It is more educated than it’s ever been.”(emphasis added)

Most would disagree. Practically every country is at war with some other country, and it feels like we are on the edge of World War III. The whole middle east could blow up at any time. Iran is at the doorstep of nuclear weapons. The U.S. is meddling in the Ukraine. Japan and China are at loggerheads. We have Russian bombers flying 50 miles off the California coast and any day we could have an EMP attack that would indirectly kill 100 million Americans. Then there’s our southern border…don’t get me started.

This is the first time in our history that one generation will not live better than their parents. And as far as better fed, we have 47 million Americans that are dependent on the government for food.

Please!

The Government Needs An Out Group

Team Obama Calls Out the SWAT Team on Tea Party Patriots

Team Obama has an Out Group

Whatever you call our U.S.  economic system, be it Crony Capitalism, Statism, Socialism, Fascism or just Tyranny and Totalitarianism, it definitely is not Capitalism.  The government will seek more and more control over the economy and our lives. The rule of law isn’t applicable anymore. The Constitution is now just a piece of paper with Democrats trying to pass an amendment that would gut our freedom of speech. They have already tried to do away with our right to bear arms. The border is no longer protected. Just look at the flood of illegal aliens coming from Mexico and nations south.

In this position our government will seek an “out group.” This time it won’t be the Jews and God forbid the out group would be Islam. No this time it is the Tea Party and people who subscribe to the old values.

“I’m going to lay it out honestly for you, the Tea Party is as close as we’ve ever been to being permanently exiled to the political wilderness.  We’ve always believed that no matter how they lied about us, smeared our leaders, or sabotaged our efforts, our righteous mission would overcome. We kept working and winning and the movement kept growing.”

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Book Review: The Curtain – A Novel By Patrick Ord

• Print Length: 314 pages
• Publisher: Henry Maddox Publishing; 1 edition (February 24, 2013)

You’ve heard of “data mining”, but did you know that based on your web searches, your social media contacts and interactions, your clicking on internet ads and a whole lot more, companies can know if your daughter is pregnant before you do; can turn you down for a loan because your neighbors scores are low; can be turned down for a job because of correlations of your interests and losers; or based on your grocery purchases and diabetes that you can be turned down by your health insurer.

This is a book about marketing in the U.S by corporations whose only goal is to make profits at the expense of society. The book is a defense of capitalism, but not the capitalism that has no virtue or self respect practiced by so many. The answer is not more regulation by a growing federal presence, but enlightenment by consumers. This a book with a darn good story that will keep you turning pages through the night, because you won’t be able to sleep anyway after starting the book.

This is a book where you’ll learn the difference between self esteem, supported by our educational establishment and self respect. By the end of the book you’ll be cheering for the most unlikely man to lead us back from the edge.
Read the book I rated at five (5) stars, but I would give it ten (10) stars if I could.

Move over “Atlas Shrugged.”

The Continuing U.S. Decline in Economic Freedom of the World Index

With whom do I argue the most? It would have to be people on the left that argue as socialists or statists and don’t put much emphasis on property rights. Well this country ranked with Canada, New Zealand and even Chile, a developing country on its way to first-world status is losing ground says the Cato Institute in a new report on Economic freedom.

“The authors of the report note that the United States has fallen in all areas that the report measures: size of government, the legal system and security of property rights, sound money, freedom to trade, and regulation. Increased spending, a weakening rule of law, worse monetary policy, greater trade barriers, and more regulation are to blame.”

You cannot have a booming economy, low unemployment, rising wages and a safety net for the poor if there is little or no economic freedom. We have lost our way. This country needs to throw off the shackles and throw out politicians who vote for less economic freedom. We need to educate our children starting now!

Tales From The Yellow Bus

I have so many interesting passengers in the summer. Thursday, I was hired to go to Madison High School, pick up 18 adults, and take them to three schools. The employer was SchoolHouseSupplies.org. The adults were volunteers and were helping to deliver backpacks filled with school supplies to Woodmere, Kelly and Whitman.

“Schoolhouse Supplies is an award-winning nonprofit that supports public education in Portland by giving students and teachers free classroom supplies. (They) operate Oregon’s only volunteer-run Free Store for Teachers, which is stocked with supplies donated by the community, the Tools for School backpack giveaway, and Schoolhouse Supplies Online programs.

As Portland area schools enter the back-to-school season, 12,941 students will return to find the supplies they need, instead of an empty desk. This year, 25 local businesses have stepped up to sponsor the Schoolhouse Supplies Tools for Schools program, which provides students in need with a free backpack filled with school supplies to support an entire year of learning. The program partners local businesses with high-need schools, where over 65% of students live at or below the poverty line.”

Thursday, the volunteers unloaded a total of 1500 back packs in the heat in five hours.

My first question to Sara, the leader, was, “Back to school sales must be a big sales time for retailers. How do they feel about you giving away free back packs and supplies to every student?”

The answer surprised me. Many of the sponsors are retailers: Walmart, Meyer Memorial Trust and The Fred Meyer Fund, The Safeway Foundation, Kroger Foods / Fred Meyer Stores, Adidas America, Inc., Nike, Inc., Target, Albertsons, etc.

I didn’t know volunteers provided school supplies to schools with a high level of poverty. So no one feels slighted, all students in the school start the year with new equipment. You can help next year. Be a volunteer by donating your time or donate money and supplies.

Liberals Think They Know Better How To Raise Your Kids

Whites are ‘Oppressors’

Last August all of the First Student school bus drivers were required to attend a two-day conference titled “Beyond Diversity – An Introduction to Courageous Conversation & A Foundation for Deinstitutionalizing Racism & Eliminating Racial Achievement Disparities.” Many of us objected to the characterization of “white racism.”

Now Wisconsin’s students are getting a dose of this left wing propaganda.

Under the banner of “diversity,” high school students are being taught that whites are the bad guys and everyone else is a victim.

How are students helped to hear that you are an oppressor and you are oppressed?

There Is A Void In Our Education!

There is a void in our education! We have a populace that is ignorant of Capitalism. They focus for heroes on sports figures and TV and movie stars that come and go like snowflakes. Ask a question like, “What does a grocery store make in profits per dollar of sales?” and either you get a blank look or some guess that assumes that grocery stores are widely profitable and thus probably greedy little bastards. Ask these same people about Kim Kardasian’s shoe size and they will know that and her favorite shoe brand.

I think our heroes should be the small business owners, who wrestle with all there is to grow a business, and software builders that allow us to track all the parts of a growing business without whom small business owners would work themselves into an early grave. Without software no business could handle all the information needed to provide jobs for millions of workers.

Suppose you decide to start a shoe store. You need to buy shoes from a big maker of shoes such as NIKE (the Vendor), stock those shoes (inventory), mark them up to customers enough to pay the utilities, taxes, insurance, and lease plus a little more (a profit) to allow you to put food on the table, put a roof over your heads and clothing on your backs. You may need to take orders for shoes not in your inventory. Eventually, you may need to take orders over the phone, deliver your goods and hire and pay employees.

As long as you stay real small, you may be able to keep track of everything on a pad of paper. When you have thousands of vendors and orders flying in and salespeople all with different payment methods, and government regulations to comply with and various taxes, and many buildings all over the world, theirs is no way you can handle all the information and have time to sit back to see what could we be doing better.

There is a solution to handling all this information and it’s called Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and it has the ability to handle all the tasks of running a business, allowing a small business to grow to be a large business, and making a profit that allows the company to pay employees, hire more employees, make shareholders happy, and provide an investment that may increase our assets for college education and retirement. Profits are a good thing!

BTW, a grocery store makes about $.03 profit for every dollar of groceries sold.
