Leah Nash, Special to The OregonianRita and Les Sarnoff relax at their Gresham home. When they met in 1987 the first thing she told him was to quit playing so much Doobie Brothers music on KINK’s morning show.

My wife Beverly just called to say that Les Sarnoff died last night of cancer. Les was hired by Jeff Douglas in 1968 and she’s listened to him on Kink.fm ever since. Bev says Les was brave and optimistic to the end. He always believed he was going to survive.

Les Sarnoff will be missed!

The Live Feed reports that American is making some subtle changes to its format. The big change is the addition of another judge and she’s a great choice: Kara DioGuardi.

She is one of the industry’s most highly sought after songwriter/producer whose songs and album productions are continuously topping the charts and winning awards world-wide. Kara currently has a catalog of more than 500 songs; in 2004/2005 Kara had 106 of those songs released and 55 appeared on multi-platinum selling albums.

Now we can have two people dropping names about the stars they work with!

I just watched the Roy Orbison special and the John Denver special on OPB, part of their pledge drive. Two great concerts! I was struck by the first stanza in the lyrics of “Rhymes & Reasons.” It seemed to describe this weeks financial undoings, which has put much fear in the minds of investors:

Somehow, to me, it reminds me of the stories in AA about drinking (or addiction), (that it) is a progressive disease. As long as you use, you are on a down escalator. My dog Park friend Craig Laurie, asked me this morning if I’d heard of Paul Potts. “Never, I said.” Craig said I’ll send you a link to his audition on Britain Has Talent.

You watch, if you’ve never seen him and see if you have the same reaction I did. There have been 16,214,769 views so far. How come I’ve never heard of him? What a wonderful day it is that I did.
