BusinessWeek reports:
The earthquake was felt as far away as San Francisco, the Los Angeles Times reported. It said that goods fell from store shelves and broke in Eureka. No casualties were immediately reported.
Eureka Fire Department spokesman Gary Bird said in a telephone interview that authorities were out on the streets assessing damages and that some power lines were down. There were also a number of gas leaks reported, he said, and a few minor injuries.
