…the U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered about 294 kilometers north-northwest of Santo, Vanuatu, at a depth of 35 kilometers. The USGS gave a preliminary magnitude estimate of 7.8. The quake struck about 2203 GMT Wednesday.
