You’ve Been Played!
My friends, the liberals and socialists, wonder why I get so worked up over government intrusion in our lives. Some of my acquaintances even boast that they are socialists. One said that Obama the socialist is too conservative. He proudly said he was a Marxist.
So from the San Diego Union comes advice to those of you who bought more house than you can pay for or signed on to one of those sub-prime, option arms or Alt-A loans: Just stop paying your mortgage.
If you are a mortgage holder who is either struggling with crushing payments, bitter for having overpaid for your home during the bubble, or who has extravagantly refinanced when prices were rising, the government’s landmark $700 billion bailout package has an important message for you: stop making your mortgage payments . . . immediately. Furthermore, if you believe that with some planning and sacrifice you may be able to meet your mortgage obligations, the government’s message is clear: relax, don’t bother.
Why pay your mortgage if foreclosure is off the table, and if you know that lower payments, and possibly a reduced loan amount, would result?
So for the rest of us who played by the rules, put 25% down, didn’t buy the house for twice the money as the one we live in or didn’t take all of our equity out to buy TVs and vacation time shares, fancy clothes and high priced dinners, don’t you feel like asucker? Don’t you feel angry at being played?
And what do we get? We get saddled with a government budget deficit that is projected to top $2 Trillion, and an inflation that will make out eyes bug out at the prices coming at us.
You see socialism ruins incentives to be thrifty, invest wisely and save, because there are no consequences for ones imprudence.
