Is America's war winding up? by Patrick J Buchanan. Are we preparing to do a "Vietnam" in Iraq and pull out? Several changes are taking place in Iraq. The constitution being drawn up does not look like our "founding fathers'" philosophy had much influence on its writing and women are excluded. Iraq and Iran seem to be cuddling up. If we stay and fight, will our troops be supporting another Iran, part of the Axis of Evil? How will people in this country feel about supporting a Muslim state that doesn't favor women's rights?
Should civil war break out as Americans depart, Iran would move to fill the gap with weaponry and perhaps volunteers to assist their Shia brethren in keeping Iraq in friendly hands. A Sunni-Shia war in Iraq, with Iran aiding one side and Arab nations the other, becomes a real possibility.
Buchanan thinks our military leaders sound impatient to get out.
