The State of the Union Speech
A couple of thoughts about SOTU. The speech had two parts foreign in the first half and domestic in the second. The second was decidely less interesting than the first and seemed also, to have been so to the President. He seems to believe in the first part and I picture Bush as Dirty Harry. In the second part he could be reading a grocery list and be as animated. Not only does Dirty Harry come to mind, but I also have images of the Imperial Fleet from Star Wars running through my brain, when Bush works the overseas angle. That is not a good thing and needs to be watched. We have come a long from the Founding Father's admonition against entangling alliances.

The one line that got me up off my seat and clapping was this one:

The road of victory is the road that will take our troops home. As we make progress on the ground, and Iraqi forces increasingly take the lead, we should be able to further decrease our troop levels -- but those decisions will be made by our military commanders, not by politicians in Washington, D.C. (emphasis added)
Take that Cindy Shehan and John Kerry and Ted Kennedy and all you far left pinkos! I will forever believe Vietnam could have been won, save for the politicians here making us fight with one arm tied behind our back.

President Clinton lied to us when he said, "The era of big government is over!" President Bush talks a good game, but the growth in the size of government has not slowed on his watch!
