Did You Read Bush’s Speech To The Knesset?
One of the things most vexing about President George W Bush is his moral certainty expressed in his speeches and his apparent disregard for his conservative base in his actions. The speech to the Knesset is a study in examples of great he can be. The speech has caused voices to be raised in this country by the Democrats and Obama in particular. But read the speech or read excerpts that stood out for me:
This (60th) anniversary (of Israel’s Creation) is a time to reflect on the past. It’s also an opportunity to look to the future. As we go forward, our alliance will be guided by clear principles — shared convictions rooted in moral clarity and unswayed by popularity polls or the shifting opinions of international elites. (emphasis added)And that is why the founding charter of Hamas calls for the “elimination” of Israel. And that is why the followers of Hezbollah chant “Death to Israel, Death to America!” That is why Osama bin Laden teaches that “the killing of Jews and Americans is one of the biggest duties.” And that is why the President of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages and calls for Israel to be wiped off the map.
There are good and decent people who cannot fathom the darkness in these men and try to explain away their words. It’s natural, but it is deadly wrong. As witnesses to evil in the past, we carry a solemn responsibility to take these words seriously. Jews and Americans have seen the consequences of disregarding the words of leaders who espouse hatred. And that is a mistake the world must not repeat in the 21st century. (emphasis added)
Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: “Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.” We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history. (Applause.)
Permitting the world’s leading sponsor of terror to possess the world’s deadliest weapons would be an unforgivable betrayal for future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. (emphasis added) (Applause.)
We must confront the moral relativism that views all forms of government as equally acceptable and thereby consigns whole societies to slavery. Above all, we must have faith in our values and ourselves and confidently pursue the expansion of liberty as the path to a peaceful future.
Who in America discusses the choice is between “moral clarity” and “moral relativism”?
Dr. Jack Wheeler makes a point about the speech:
The most interesting thing about Bush’s Knesset speech is what he didn’t say. With Condi right there, sitting next to Laura, he said not a solitary thing about the Palestinian-Israeli “peace process” she’s worked so hard on. For word is that’s a signal - that before he leaves office, GW is going to take the mullahs out.

Yeah, brilliant speech. He said a whole lotta nothing. But as you are Mover’ Mike, you probably get moved by watching the grass grow. Really, the Chumps and their chimp should be dragged before the Hague for not only their war crimes including but not limited to torture. At the very least, Chimpy should be impeached for ruining the economy, subverting the U.S. Constitution and turning his back on wounded veterans. One thing that I am glad about is when McCain backs his master, President Bush. That is just rich. Everytime John McBush opens his fat ugly trap is one more reason for the American people to reject the phony in November. So Mr. George W. Bush and Mr. John McBush, please continue talking in concert.
One final thing, I did like that Likud Joey Leiberman backed Bush and McCain’s statements. Remember, John McCain has Teddy Olsen as part of his campaign staff. Remember, Ted Olsen defended American Spy Joseph Pollard. Pollard spied for the Israelis who gave information they got from him to the Russians. I am gonna just love the run up to November, McCain Staffer a Spy Lover. I wonder how the American people down south are gonna love a candidate who has a spy abetter as part of his campaign. Fun
Abe, thanks for your comments. I hope I can continue tp provide you entertainment.
Well, he leaves us with no doubt about the fact that the U.S. will be standing by Israel through thick and thin.
I was surprised at his criticism of the U.N.
I don’t know who wrote Mr. Bush’s speech, but I would like to ask them what God’s “chosen people” has to do with the Jews.
