What Obama Should Have Said!
Amy Althouse makes the point I wish the president had made about the proposed ground zero mosque and is the point of the protests.
We value free speech and freedom of religion. “Jones has the right to burn the book, but he should refrain from exercising it and be sensitive to the feelings of others…” Obama said of the muslims in NY, they have the right to build the mosque wherever they want, but should have continued with these words: they should refrain from exercising that right and be sensitive to the feelings of others.
That is the crux of the NY mosque placement. It’s not xenophobia or Islamaphobia! The location is insensitive and appears to be a thumb in the eye of America. The mosque in the ground zero zone would be a reminder everyday that Islam was the motivation for the attack in which almost 3,000 people lost their lives.
