Who Is Sam Adams Working For?
Beth Slovic writing for The Oregonian tells us today that mayor Sam Adams defends the Oregon Sustainabilty Center for several city bureaus because it’s tied in to the 1900 building which he says was purchased with the goal of selling the building to PSU.
Here’s the great deal the city and taxpayers can look forward to:
The 1900 Building, which will be fully paid for in 2018, currently houses a number of city of Portland offices, including the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability. In 2018, rent at the 1900 Building will drop significantly — to about $400,000 a year in the case of the planning bureau.
However, the 100-person bureau will move to the sustainability center, if the City Council and the Legislature approve public funds for the project next year. And, if so, the bureau will pay about $1 million in annual rent at the new center, according to the latest estimates.
Gee our rent jumps 2 1/2 fold and Adams justifies the move.
